And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.2 And Shecaniah, the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answering, said to Ezra, We have done evil against our God, and have taken as our wives strange women of the peoples of the land: but still there is hope for Israel in this question.2 엘람 자손중 여히엘의 아들 스가냐가 에스라에게 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님께 범죄하여 이 땅 이방 여자를 취하여 아내를 삼았으나 이스라엘에게 오히려 소망이 있나니
Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.3 Let us now make an agreement with our God to put away all the wives and all their children, if it seems right to my lord and to those who go in fear of the words of our God; and let it be done in keeping with the law.3 곧 내 주의 교훈을 좇으며 우리 하나님의 명령을 떨며 준행하는 자의 의논을 좇아 이 모든 아내와 그 소생을 다 내어 보내기로 우리 하나님과 언약을 세우고 율법대로 행할 것이라
Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.4 Up, now! for this is your business, and we are with you; take heart and do it.4 이는 당신의 주장할 일이니 일어나소서 우리가 도우리니 힘써 행하소서
Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.5 Then Ezra got up, and made the chiefs of the priests and the Levites and all Israel take an oath that they would do this. So they took an oath.5 이에 에스라가 일어나 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 온 이스라엘에게 이 말대로 행하기를 맹세하게 하매 무리가 맹세하는지라
Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.6 Then Ezra got up from before the house of God and went into the room of Jehohanan, the son of Eliashib; but when he came there, he took no food or drink, for he was sorrowing for the sin of those who had come back.6 이에 에스라가 하나님의 전 앞에서 일어나 엘리아십의 아들 여호하난의 방으로 들어가니라 저가 들어가서 사로잡혔던 자의 죄를 근심하여 떡도 먹지 아니하며 물도 마시지 아니하더니
And they made proclamation ㆍ throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;7 And they made a public statement through all Judah and Jerusalem, to all those who had come back, that they were to come together to Jerusalem;7 유다와 예루살렘의 사로잡혔던 자의 자손들에게 공포하기를 너희는 예루살렘으로 모이라
And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.8 And that if anyone did not come before three days were past, as ordered by the rulers and the responsible men, all his goods would be put under the curse, and he himself would be cut off from the meeting of the people who had come back.8 누구든지 방백들과 장로들의 훈시를 좇아 삼일 내에 오지 아니하면 그 재산을 적몰하고 사로잡혔던 자의 회에서 쫓아 내리라 하매
Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin came together to Jerusalem before three days were past; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people were seated in the wide square in front of the house of God, shaking with fear because of this business and because of the great rain.9 유다와 베냐민 모든 사람이 삼일 내에 예루살렘에 모이니 때는 구월 이십일이라 무리가 하나님의 전앞 광장에 앉아서 이 일과 큰 비를 인하여 떨더니
And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.10 And Ezra the priest got to his feet and said to them, You have done wrong and taken strange women for your wives, so increasing the sin of Israel.10 제사장 에스라가 일어서서 저희에게 이르되 너희가 범죄하여 이방 여자로 아내를 삼아 이스라엘의 죄를 더하게 하였으니
Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.11 So now, give praise to the Lord, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and make yourselves separate from the peoples of the land and from the strange women.11 이제 너희 열조의 하나님 앞에서 죄를 자복하고 그 뜻대로 행하여 이 땅 족속들과 이방 여인을 끊어 버리라
Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.12 Then all the people, answering, said with a loud voice, As you have said, so it is right for us to do.12 회 무리가 큰 소리로 대답하여 가로되 당신의 말씀대로 우리가 마땅히 행할 것이니이다
But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.13 But the number of people is great, and it is a time of much rain; it is not possible for us to go on waiting outside, and this is not a thing which may be done in one day or even two: for our sin in this business is great.13 그러나 백성이 많고 또 큰 비가 내리는 때니 능히 밖에 서지 못할 것이요 우리가 이 일로 크게 범죄하였은즉 하루 이틀에 할 일이 아니오니
Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.14 So now let our rulers be representatives for all the people, and let all those in our towns who are married to strange women come at fixed times, and with them the responsible men and the judges of every town, till the burning wrath of our God is turned away from us, and this has been done.14 이제 온 회중을 위하여 우리 방백들을 세우고 우리 모든 성읍에 이방 여자에게 장가든 자는 다 기한에 본성 장로들과 재판장과 함께 오게 하여 우리 하나님의 이 일로 인하신 진노가 우리에게서 떠나게 하소서 하나
Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.15 Only Jonathan, the son of Asahel, and Jahzeiah, the son of Tikvah, were against this, Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supporting them.15 오직 아사헬의 아들 요나단과 디과의 아들 야스야가 일어나 그 일을 반대하고 므술람과 레위 사람 삽브대가 저희를 돕더라
And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.16 So those who had come back did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of families, by their fathers' families, all of them by their names, were marked out; and on the first day of the tenth month they took their places to go into the question with care.16 사로잡혔던 자의 자손이 그대로 한지라 제사장 에스라가 그 종족을 따라 각기 지명된 족장 몇 사람을 위임하고 시월 초하루에 앉아 그 일을 조사하여
And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.17 And they got to the end of all the men who were married to strange women by the first day of the first month.17 정월 초하루에 이르러 이방 여인을 취한 자의 일 조사하기를 마치니라
