Q1. What is thy only comfort in life and in death?

That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; yea, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready henceforth to live unto Him.

문 1. 살아 있을 때나 죽을 때나 당신의 유일한 위로는 무엇입니까?

저의 몸과 영혼이 살아 있을 때나 죽을 때나 제 것이 아니라, 저의 신실한 구주 예수 그리스도의 것이라는 사실입니다. 그분은 자신의 보배로운 피로 저의 모든 죄의 값을 온전히 갚으셨고, 마귀의 모든 권세에서 저를 구속하셨습니다. 또한 저를 지켜 주셔서 하늘에 계신 제 아버지의 뜻이 아니면 머리털 하나도 떨어질 수 없으며, 참으로 모든 일이 함께 작용하여 저의 구원에 이르게 하십니다. 그러므로 그분은 성령으로 저에게 영생을 확신시켜 주시며, 이제부터 마음을 다하여 기꺼이 그분을 위해 살고자 하는 뜻과 준비를 갖추게 하십니다.

로마서 14:7, 8

7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

7 우리 중에 누구든지 자기를 위하여 사는 자가 없고 자기를 위하여 죽는 자도 없도다

8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

8 우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로라

고린도전서 6:19

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

디도서 2:14

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

14 그가 우리를 대신하여 자신을 주심은 모든 불법에서 우리를 구속하시고 우리를 깨끗하게 하사 선한 일에 열심하는 친 백성이 되게 하려 하심이니라

히브리서 2:14, 15

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Q2. How many things are necessary for thee to know, that thou in this comfort mayest live and die happily?

Three things: First, the greatness of my sin and misery. Second, how I am redeemed from all my sins and misery. Third, how I am to be thankful to God for such redemption.

문 2. 이 위로 가운데 복되게 살고 죽으려면 몇 가지를 알아야 합니까?

세 가지입니다. 첫째, 저의 죄와 비참이 얼마나 큰지 알아야 합니다. 둘째, 저의 모든 죄와 비참에서 어떻게 구속받는지 알아야 합니다. 셋째, 그러한 구속을 받았으므로 하나님께 어떻게 감사해야 하는지 알아야 합니다.
