문 37~39

Q37. What dost thou understand by the word Suffered?

That all the time He lived on earth, but especially at the end of His life, He bore, in body and soul, the wrath of God against the sin of the whole human race, in order that by His passion, as the only atoning sacrifice, He might redeem our body and soul from everlasting damnation, and obtain for us the grace of God, righteousness, and eternal life.

문 37. “고난받으셨다”는 말은 무슨 뜻입니까?

그리스도께서 땅에 사시는 모든 기간에, 특히 생애의 마지막에 온 인류의 죄를 향한 하나님의 진노를 몸과 영혼으로 감당하셨다는 뜻입니다. 이는 유일한 속죄제물이신 그분이 자신의 고난으로 우리의 몸과 영혼을 영원한 정죄에서 구속하시고, 우리를 위하여 하나님의 은혜와 의와 영원한 생명을 얻으시려는 것이었습니다.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

15 내 힘이 말라 질그릇 조각 같고 내 혀가 잇틀에 붙었나이다 주께서 또 나를 사망의 진토에 두셨나이다

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

고린도후서 5:21

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

베드로전서 2:24

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Q38. Why did He suffer under Pontius Pilate, as judge?

That He, being innocent, might be condemned by the temporal judge, and thereby deliver us from the severe judgment of God to which we were exposed.

문 38. 그분은 왜 재판관 본디오 빌라도 아래에서 고난받으셨습니까?

죄 없으신 그분이 세상의 재판관에게 정죄받으심으로, 우리가 받아 마땅했던 하나님의 엄중한 심판에서 우리를 건지시기 위해서입니다.

Q39. Is there any thing more in His having been crucified than if He had died some other death?

Yes; for thereby I am assured that He took on Himself the curse which lay upon me, because the death of the cross was accursed of God.

문 39. 그리스도께서 다른 방식으로 죽지 않으시고 십자가에 못 박히신 데에는 특별한 의미가 있습니까?

그렇습니다. 십자가의 죽음은 하나님께 저주받은 것이었으므로, 그분이 저에게 내려 있던 저주를 자신에게 짊어지셨다는 확신을 얻습니다.
