Lord's Day 24
Questions 62-64
Expand all | Collapse all
Frage 62.
Q62. But why can not our good works be the whole or part of oar righteousness before God?
Because the righteousness which can stand before the judgment-seat of God must be perfect throughout, and wholly conformable to the divine law; whereas even our best works in this life are all imperfect and defiled with sin.
Scripture proofs: Isa 64:6; Jak 2:10; Gal 3:10; Ps 143:2

Frage 63.
Q63. How is it that our good works merit nothing, while yet it is God's will to reward them in this life and in that which is to come?
The reward comes not of merit, but of grace.
Scripture proofs: Luk 17:10; Rom 11:16

Frage 64.
Q64. But does not this doctrine make men careless and profane?
No; for it is impossible that those who are implanted into Christ by true faith should not bring forth fruits of righteousness.
Scripture proofs: Rom 6:1,2; Matth 7:18; John 15:5
