Q86. Since, then, we are redeemed from our misery by grace through Christ, without any merit of ours, why must we do good works?

Because Christ, having redeemed us by His blood, renews us also by His holy Spirit after His own image, that with our whole life we may show ourselves thankful to God for His blessing, and that He may be glorified through us; then, also, that we ourselves may be assured of our faith by the fruits thereof, and by our godly walk may win our neighbors also to Christ.

문 86. 우리가 아무 공로 없이 그리스도로 말미암아 은혜로 비참에서 구속받았다면, 왜 선행을 해야 합니까?

그리스도께서 자신의 피로 우리를 구속하신 후, 성령으로 우리를 자신의 형상을 따라 새롭게 하시기 때문입니다. 이는 우리가 온 삶으로 하나님의 은혜에 감사함을 나타내고, 우리를 통하여 그분이 영광을 받으시게 하려는 것입니다. 또한 그 열매로 우리 자신이 믿음을 확신하고, 경건한 행실로 이웃도 그리스도께로 인도하게 하려는 것입니다.

베드로전서 3:1

마태복음 5:16

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

12 너희가 이방인 중에서 행실을 선하게 가져 너희를 악행한다고 비방하는 자들로 하여금 너희 선한 일을 보고 권고하시는 날에 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 함이라

로마서 12:1, 2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

1 그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제사로 드리라 이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 너희는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라

베드로후서 1:10

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

10 그러므로 형제들아 더욱 힘써 너희 부르심과 택하심을 굳게 하라 너희가 이것을 행한즉 언제든지 실족지 아니하리라

Q87. Can they, then, not be saved who do not turn to God from their unthankful, impenitent life?

By no means; for, as the Scripture saith, no unchaste person, idolater, adulterer, thief, covetous man, drunkard, slanderer, robber, or any such like, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

문 87. 감사하지 않고 회개하지 않는 삶에서 하나님께로 돌이키지 않는 사람들은 구원받을 수 없습니까?

결코 구원받을 수 없습니다. 성경은 “음란하는 자나 우상 숭배하는 자나 간음하는 자나” “도적이나 탐람하는 자나 술 취하는 자나 후욕하는 자나 토색하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받지 못하리라”라고 말씀하며, 그와 같은 사람들도 그러합니다.

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

14 우리가 형제를 사랑함으로 사망에서 옮겨 생명으로 들어간 줄을 알거니와 사랑치 아니하는 자는 사망에 거하느니라

15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

15 그 형제를 미워하는 자마다 살인하는 자니 살인하는 자마다 영생이 그 속에 거하지 아니하는 것을 너희가 아는 바라

요한계시록 21:8

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

8 그러나 두려워하는 자들과 믿지 아니하는 자들과 흉악한 자들과 살인자들과 행음자들과 술객들과 우상 숭배자들과 모든 거짓말 하는 자들은 불과 유황으로 타는 못에 참예하리니 이것이 둘째 사망이라

15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
