문 9~11

Q9. Does not God, then, wrong man by requiring of him in His law that which he can not perform?

No; for God so made man that he could perform it; but man, through the instigation of the devil, by willful disobedience deprived himself and all his posterity of this power.

문 9. 그렇다면 사람이 행할 수 없는 것을 율법에서 요구하시는 것은 하나님께서 사람에게 부당하게 대하시는 것이 아닙니까?

아닙니다. 하나님께서는 사람이 그것을 행할 수 있도록 만드셨기 때문입니다. 그러나 사람은 마귀의 부추김을 받아 고의적으로 불순종함으로 자신과 모든 후손에게서 이 능력을 빼앗았습니다.

Q10. Will God suffer such disobedience and apostasy to go unpunished?

By no means; but He is terribly displeased with our inborn as well as actual sins, and will punish them in just judgment in time and eternity, as He has declared: Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.

문 10. 하나님께서는 그러한 불순종과 배교를 벌하지 않고 내버려 두십니까?

결코 그렇지 않습니다. 하나님께서는 우리가 타고난 죄와 실제로 행한 죄 모두에 대하여 심히 진노하시며, 의로운 심판으로 현세와 영원에 걸쳐 벌하실 것입니다. 하나님께서는 “누구든지 율법 책에 기록된 대로 온갖 일을 항상 행하지 아니하는 자는 저주 아래 있는 자라”라고 선언하셨습니다.

2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

5 다만 네 고집과 회개치 아니한 마음을 따라 진노의 날 곧 하나님의 의로우신 판단이 나타나는 그 날에 임할 진노를 네게 쌓는도다

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

6 하나님께서 각 사람에게 그 행한대로 보응하시되

Q11. Is, then, God not also merciful?

God is indeed merciful, but He is likewise just; wherefore His justice requires that sin, which is committed against the most high majesty of God, be also punished with extreme, that is, with everlasting punishment both of body and soul.

문 11. 그렇다면 하나님께서는 자비로우신 분이 아닙니까?

하나님께서는 참으로 자비로우시지만 동시에 의로우십니다. 그러므로 지극히 높으신 하나님의 위엄을 거슬러 범한 죄는 극심한 형벌, 곧 몸과 영혼이 받는 영원한 형벌로 벌해야 한다고 그분의 공의가 요구합니다.
