Q105. What does God require in the sixth commandment?

That I neither in thought, nor in word or look, much less in deed, revile, hate, insult, or kill my neighbor, whether by myself or by another; but lay aside all desire of revenge: moreover, that I harm not myself, nor willfully run into any danger. Wherefore, also, to restrain murder, the magistrate is armed with the sword.

문 105. 하나님께서는 제6계명에서 무엇을 요구하십니까?

생각이나 말이나 표정으로 이웃을 모욕하거나 미워하거나 해치거나 죽이지 말아야 하며, 실제 행위로는 더더욱 그러해서는 안 됩니다. 직접 하든 다른 사람을 통해 하든 마찬가지입니다. 또한 모든 복수심을 버려야 합니다. 아울러 자신을 해치거나 고의로 위험에 뛰어들어서도 안 됩니다. 그러므로 하나님께서는 살인을 억제하도록 위정자에게 칼을 주셨습니다.

Q106. But this commandment speaks only of killing.

In forbidding this, however, God means to teach ns that He abhors the root of murder—namely, envy, hatred, anger, and desire of revenge; and that all these are in His sight hidden murder.

문 106. 그러나 이 계명은 죽이는 일만을 말하지 않습니까?

하나님께서는 살인을 금하심으로 그 뿌리인 시기와 미움과 분노와 복수심도 미워하신다는 것을 가르치십니다. 이 모든 것은 그분 보시기에 감추어진 살인입니다.

Q107. Is it, then, enough that we do not kill our neighbor in any such way?

No; for in condemning envy, hatred, and anger, God requires us to love our neighbor as ourselves, to show patience, peace, meekness, mercy, and kindness towards him, and, so far as we have power, to prevent his hurt; also, to do good even unto our enemies.

문 107. 그렇다면 어떤 방식으로든 이웃을 죽이지 않기만 하면 충분합니까?

아닙니다. 하나님께서는 시기와 미움과 분노를 정죄하시면서, 이웃을 자신처럼 사랑하고 인내와 평화와 온유와 자비와 친절을 보이며, 할 수 있는 한 이웃이 해를 입지 않도록 막을 것을 요구하십니다. 또한 원수에게도 선을 행해야 합니다.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
