Q116. Why is prayer necessary for Christians?

Because it is the chief part of the thankfulness which God requires of us, and because God will give His grace and Holy Spirit only to such as earnestly and without ceasing beg them from Him and render thanks unto Him for them.

문 116. 그리스도인에게 기도가 필요한 이유는 무엇입니까?

기도는 하나님께서 우리에게 요구하시는 감사의 가장 중요한 부분이기 때문입니다. 또한 하나님께서는 은혜와 성령을 간절히 쉬지 않고 구하며, 그것들로 인하여 감사드리는 사람들에게만 자신의 은혜와 성령을 주시기 때문입니다.

Q117. What belongs to such prayer as God is pleased with and will hear?

First, that from the heart we call only upon the one true God, who has revealed Himself to us in His Word, for all that He has commanded us to ask of Him; secondly, that we thoroughly know our need and misery, so as to humble ourselves before the face of His Divine majesty; thirdly, that we be firmly assured that, notwithstanding our unworthiness, He will, for the sake of Christ our Lord, certainly hear our prayer, as He has promised us in His Word.

문 117. 하나님께서 기뻐하시고 들어 주시는 기도에는 무엇이 필요합니까?

첫째, 말씀 안에서 자신을 계시하신 유일하신 참 하나님께만 마음으로 기도하며, 그분이 구하라고 명령하신 모든 것을 구해야 합니다. 둘째, 우리의 필요와 비참을 철저히 알아 그분의 신적 위엄 앞에서 자신을 낮추어야 합니다. 셋째, 우리는 합당하지 않지만 하나님께서 말씀에 약속하신 대로 우리 주 그리스도 때문에 반드시 기도를 들어 주신다는 것을 굳게 확신해야 합니다.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

다니엘 9:18

18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.

18 나의 하나님이여 귀를 기울여 들으시며 눈을 떠서 우리의 황폐된 상황과 주의 이름으로 일컫는 성을 보옵소서 우리가 주의 앞에 간구하옵는 것은 우리의 의를 의지하여 하는 것이 아니요 주의 큰 긍휼을 의지하여 함이오니

Q118. What has God commanded us to ask of Him?

All things necessary for soul and body, which Christ our Lord has comprised in the prayer taught us by Himself.

문 118. 하나님께서는 무엇을 구하라고 명령하셨습니까?

영혼과 몸에 필요한 모든 것을 구하라고 명령하셨습니다. 우리 주 그리스도께서는 친히 가르쳐 주신 기도에 이 모든 것을 담으셨습니다.

Our Father who art in heaven: Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

문 119. 주기도문은 무엇입니까?

“하늘에 계신 우리 아버지여 이름이 거룩히 여김을 받으시오며 나라이 임하옵시며 뜻이 하늘에서 이룬 것같이 땅에서도 이루어지이다 오늘날 우리에게 일용할 양식을 주옵시고 우리가 우리에게 죄 지은 자를 사하여 준 것 같이 우리 죄를 사하여 주옵시고 우리를 시험에 들게 하지 마옵시고 다만 악에서 구하옵소서 (나라와 권세와 영광이 아버지께 영원히 있사옵나이다 아멘).”
