14장 구원에 이르는 믿음

Of Saving Faith

1. The grace of faith, whereby the elect are enabled to believe to the saving of their souls, is the work of the Spirit of Christ in their hearts,¹ and is ordinarily wrought by the ministry of the Word;² by which also, and by the administration of baptism and the Lord’s supper, prayer, and other means appointed of God, it is increased and strengthened.³

1. 택하신 자들이 믿어 영혼의 구원에 이르게 하는 믿음의 은혜는 그들의 마음속에서 이루어지는 그리스도의 영의 사역이다.¹ 이는 통상적으로 말씀의 사역을 통해 생겨난다.² 또한 말씀의 사역과 침례 및 성찬의 시행과 기도와 하나님께서 정하신 다른 방편들을 통해 믿음이 자라고 강해진다.³

2. By this faith a Christian believes to be true whatsoever is revealed in the Word for the authority of God himself,⁴ and also apprehends an excellency therein above all other writings and all things in the world,⁵ as it bears forth the glory of God in his attributes, the excellency of Christ in his nature and offices, and the power and fullness of the Holy Spirit in his workings and operations: and so is enabled to cast his soul upon the truth consequently believed;⁶ and also acts differently upon that which each particular passage thereof contains; yielding obedience to the commands,⁷ trembling at the threatenings,⁸ and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come;⁹ but the principle acts of saving faith have immediate relation to Christ, accepting, receiving, and resting upon him alone for justification, sanctification, and eternal life, by virtue of the covenant of grace.¹⁰

2. 이 믿음으로 그리스도인은 하나님 자신의 권위 때문에 말씀에 계시된 모든 것을 참되다고 믿는다.⁴ 또한 말씀이 세상의 다른 모든 저술과 모든 것보다 탁월함을 깨닫는다.⁵ 말씀은 하나님의 속성에 나타난 그분의 영광과, 그리스도의 본성과 직무에 나타난 그분의 탁월함과, 성령의 역사와 활동에 나타난 그분의 능력과 충만함을 드러낸다. 그리하여 신자는 이처럼 믿게 된 진리에 자신의 영혼을 맡길 수 있게 된다.⁶ 또한 각 본문에 담긴 내용에 따라 다르게 반응하여, 명령에는 순종하고,⁷ 경고 앞에서는 떨며,⁸ 현세와 내세를 위한 하나님의 약속들을 붙든다.⁹ 그러나 구원에 이르는 믿음의 주된 행위는 그리스도와 직접 관련된다. 곧 은혜 언약에 근거하여 칭의와 성화와 영생을 위해 오직 그분만을 받아들이고 영접하며 의지하는 것이다.¹⁰

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

디모데후서 1:12

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

12 이를 인하여 내가 또 이 고난을 받되 부끄러워하지 아니함은 나의 의뢰한 자를 내가 알고 또한 나의 의탁한 것을 그 날까지 저가 능히 지키실 줄을 확신함이라

갈라디아서 2:20

사도행전 15:11

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

3. This faith, although it be in different stages, and may be weak or strong,¹¹ yet it is in the least degree of it different in the kind or nature of it, as is all other saving grace, from the faith and common grace of temporary believers;¹² and therefore, though it may be many times assailed and weakened, yet it gets the victory,¹³ growing up in many to the attainment of a full assurance through Christ,¹⁴ who is both the author and finisher of our faith.¹⁵

3. 이 믿음에는 여러 단계가 있으며 약할 수도 강할 수도 있다.¹¹ 그러나 가장 작은 정도의 믿음도, 구원에 속한 다른 모든 은혜와 마찬가지로, 일시적으로 믿는 사람들의 믿음과 일반적인 은혜와는 종류나 본질이 다르다.¹² 그러므로 여러 차례 공격받고 약해질 수 있으나 결국 승리한다.¹³ 많은 사람 안에서 이 믿음은 자라나 그리스도를 통하여 충만한 확신에 이른다.¹⁴ 그리스도는 우리 믿음의 창시자이시며 완성자이시다.¹⁵

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

14 단단한 식물은 장성한 자의 것이니 저희는 지각을 사용하므로 연단을 받아 선악을 분변하는 자들이니라

마태복음 6:30

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

30 오늘 있다가 내일 아궁이에 던지우는 들풀도 하나님이 이렇게 입히시거든 하물며 너희일까보냐 믿음이 적은 자들아

로마서 4:19-20

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

19 그가 백세나 되어 자기 몸의 죽은 것 같음과 사라의 태의 죽은 것 같음을 알고도 믿음이 약하여지지 아니하고

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

1 예수 그리스도의 종과 사도인 시몬 베드로는 우리 하나님과 구주 예수 그리스도의 의를 힘입어 동일하게 보배로운 믿음을 우리와 같이 받은 자들에게 편지하노니

에베소서 6:16

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

요한일서 5:4-5

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

5 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구뇨

히브리서 6:11-12

11 And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

11 우리가 간절히 원하는 것은 너희 각 사람이 동일한 부지런을 나타내어 끝까지 소망의 풍성함에 이르러

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

12 게으르지 아니하고 믿음과 오래 참음으로 말미암아 약속들을 기업으로 받는 자들을 본받는 자 되게 하려는 것이니라

골로새서 2:2

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

2 이는 저희로 마음에 위안을 받고 사랑 안에서 연합하여 원만한 이해의 모든 부요에 이르러 하나님의 비밀인 그리스도를 깨닫게 하려 함이라

히브리서 12:2

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2 믿음의 주요 또 온전케 하시는 이인 예수를 바라보자 저는 그 앞에 있는 즐거움을 위하여 십자가를 참으사 부끄러움을 개의치 아니하시더니 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉으셨느니라
