8장 중보자 그리스도

Of Christ the Mediator

1. It pleased God, in His eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus, His only begotten Son, according to the covenant made between them both, to be the mediator between God and man;¹ the prophet,² priest,³ and king;⁴ head and savior of the church,⁵ the heir of all things,⁶ and judge of the world;⁷ unto whom He did from all eternity give a people to be His seed and to be by Him in time redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.⁸

1. 하나님은 영원한 목적 안에서, 성부와 성자 사이에 맺으신 언약에 따라 자신의 독생자이신 주 예수를 하나님과 사람 사이의 중보자로 선택하고 세우시기를 기뻐하셨다.¹ 그분은 선지자이시며,² 제사장이시고,³ 왕이시며,⁴ 교회의 머리이자 구주이시고,⁵ 만물의 상속자이시며,⁶ 세상의 심판자이시다.⁷ 하나님은 영원부터 한 백성을 그분께 주셔서 그분의 자손이 되게 하셨으며, 때가 되면 그분으로 말미암아 구속받고 부르심을 받으며, 의롭다 하심과 거룩하게 하심과 영화롭게 하심을 받게 하셨다.⁸

베드로전서 1:19-20

이사야 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

2. The Son of God, the second person in the Holy Trinity, being very and eternal God, the brightness of the Father’s glory, of one substance and equal with Him who made the world, who upholds and governs all things He has made, did, when the fullness of time was complete, take upon Him man’s nature, with all the essential properties and common infirmities of it,⁹ yet without sin;¹⁰ being conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary, the Holy Spirit coming down upon her: and the power of the Most High overshadowing her; and so was made of a woman of the tribe of Judah, of the seed of Abraham and David according to the Scriptures;¹¹ so that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, or confusion; which person is very God and very man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and man.¹²

2. 거룩한 삼위일체의 제2위이신 하나님의 아들은 참되고 영원하신 하나님이시며 성부의 영광의 광채이시다. 그분은 세상을 만드신 성부와 동일한 본질을 가지시고 동등하시며, 자신이 만드신 만물을 붙드시고 다스리신다. 그분은 때가 완전히 차자 인성을 취하시되 그 인성의 모든 본질적인 속성과 공통된 연약함을 가지셨다.⁹ 그러나 죄는 없으셨다.¹⁰ 그분은 동정녀 마리아의 태중에 성령으로 잉태되셨다. 성령께서 마리아에게 임하시고 지극히 높으신 이의 능력이 그를 덮으셨다. 이처럼 성경에 따라 유다 지파에 속하며 아브라함과 다윗의 후손인 여자에게서 나셨다.¹¹ 이로써 온전하고 완전하며 구별되는 두 본성이 한 위격 안에서 변환되거나 합성되거나 혼합됨 없이 분리할 수 없게 결합되었다. 이 위격은 참 하나님이시며 참 사람이시지만, 한 분 그리스도이시며 하나님과 사람 사이의 유일한 중보자이시다.¹²

히브리서 4:15

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

15 우리에게 있는 대제사장은 우리 연약함을 체휼하지 아니하는 자가 아니요 모든 일에 우리와 한결 같이 시험을 받은 자로되 죄는 없으시니라

로마서 9:5

5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

디모데전서 2:5

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

3. The Lord Jesus, in His human nature thus united to the divine, in the person of the Son, was sanctified and anointed with the Holy Spirit above measure,¹³ having in Him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge;¹⁴ in whom it pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell,¹⁵ to the end that being holy, harmless, undefiled,¹⁶ and full of grace and truth,¹⁷ He might be throughly furnished to execute the office of mediator and surety;¹⁸ which office He took not upon himself, but was thereunto called by His Father;¹⁹ who also put all power and judgement in His hand, and gave Him commandment to execute the same.²⁰

3. 주 예수는 성자의 위격 안에서 이처럼 신성과 연합된 인성에 있어서 성령으로 한량없이 거룩하게 되시고 기름 부음을 받으셨다.¹³ 그분 안에는 지혜와 지식의 모든 보화가 있으며,¹⁴ 성부께서는 모든 충만이 그분 안에 거하기를 기뻐하셨다.¹⁵ 이는 그분이 거룩하고 악이 없으며 더러움이 없고,¹⁶ 은혜와 진리가 충만하셔서,¹⁷ 중보자와 보증인의 직무를 수행하는 데 온전히 갖추어지게 하려는 것이었다.¹⁸ 그분은 이 직무를 스스로 취하신 것이 아니라 성부의 부르심을 받으셨다.¹⁹ 성부께서는 모든 권세와 심판을 그분의 손에 맡기시고 그것을 수행하도록 명령하셨다.²⁰

4. This office the Lord Jesus did most willingly undertake,²¹ which that He might discharge He was made under the law,²² and did perfectly fulfill it, and underwent the punishment due to us, which we should have born and suffered,²³ being made sin and a curse for us;²⁴ enduring most grievous sorrows in His soul, and most painful sufferings in His body;²⁵ was crucified, and died, and remained in the state of the dead, yet saw no corruption:²⁶ on the third day He arose from the dead²⁷ with the same body in which He suffered,²⁸ with which He also ascended into heaven,²⁹ and there sits at the right hand of His Father making intercession,³⁰ and shall return to judge men and angels at the end of the world.³¹

4. 주 예수는 이 직무를 지극히 자원하여 맡으셨다.²¹ 이를 수행하시기 위하여 그분은 율법 아래 나셨으며,²² 율법을 완전하게 이루시고, 우리가 마땅히 짊어지고 겪어야 했던 형벌을 받으셨다.²³ 우리를 위하여 죄와 저주가 되셨으며,²⁴ 영혼의 지극히 극심한 슬픔과 몸의 지극히 아픈 고난을 견디셨다.²⁵ 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으시고 죽은 자의 상태에 머무르셨으나 썩음을 당하지 않으셨다.²⁶ 사흘째 되는 날 죽은 자들 가운데서 살아나셨으며,²⁷ 고난받으셨던 바로 그 몸으로 부활하셨다.²⁸ 그 몸으로 하늘에 오르셨고,²⁹ 성부의 오른편에 앉아 우리를 위하여 간구하신다.³⁰ 그분은 세상 끝에 사람들과 천사들을 심판하시기 위하여 다시 오실 것이다.³¹

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

5 그러므로 세상에 임하실 때에 가라사대 하나님이 제사와 예물을 원치 아니하시고 오직 나를 위하여 한 몸을 예비하셨도다

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

6 전체로 번제함과 속죄제는 기뻐하지 아니하시나니

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

7 이에 내가 말하기를 하나님이여 보시옵소서 두루마리 책에 나를 가리켜 기록한 것과 같이 하나님의 뜻을 행하러 왔나이다 하시니라

8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

8 위에 말씀하시기를 제사와 예물과 전체로 번제함과 속죄제는 원치도 아니하고 기뻐하지도 아니하신다 하셨고 (이는 다 율법을 따라 드리는 것이라)

9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

9 그 후에 말씀하시기를 보시옵소서 내가 하나님의 뜻을 행하러 왔나이다 하셨으니 그 첫 것을 폐하심은 둘째 것을 세우려 하심이니라

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

10 이 뜻을 좇아 예수 그리스도의 몸을 단번에 드리심으로 말미암아 우리가 거룩함을 얻었노라

요한복음 10:18

18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

18 이를 내게서 빼앗는 자가 있는 것이 아니라 내가 스스로 버리노라 나는 버릴 권세도 있고 다시 얻을 권세도 있으니 이 계명은 내 아버지에게서 받았노라 하시니라

갈라디아서 4:4

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

6 우리는 다 양 같아서 그릇 행하여 각기 제 길로 갔거늘 여호와께서는 우리 무리의 죄악을 그에게 담당시키셨도다

베드로전서 3:18

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

18 그리스도께서도 한번 죄를 위하여 죽으사 의인으로서 불의한 자를 대신하셨으니 이는 우리를 하나님 앞으로 인도하려 하심이라 육체로는 죽임을 당하시고 영으로는 살리심을 받으셨으니

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

21 하나님이 죄를 알지도 못하신 자로 우리를 대신하여 죄를 삼으신 것은 우리로 하여금 저의 안에서 하나님의 의가 되게 하려 하심이니라

37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

6. Although the price of redemption was not actually paid by Christ until after His incarnation, yet the virtue, efficacy, and benefit thereof were communicated to the elect in all ages, successively from the beginning of the world, in and by those promises, types, and sacrifices wherein He was revealed, and signified to be the seed which should bruise the serpent’s head;³⁴ and the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world,³⁵ being the same yesterday, and today and for ever.³⁶

7. Christ, in the work of mediation, acts according to both natures, by each nature doing that which is proper to itself; yet by reason of the unity of the person, that which is proper to one nature is sometimes in Scripture, attributed to the person denominated by the other nature.³⁷
