XIII. Of Sanctification

1. They who are effectually called and regenerated, having a new heart and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ’s death and resurrection,^a by his Word and Spirit dwelling in them;^b the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed,^c and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified,^d and they more and more quickened and strengthened, in all saving graces,^e to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.^f

1. 효력 있게 부르심을 받고 거듭나서 새 마음과 새 영이 창조된 사람들은 그리스도의 죽음과 부활의 능력으로 더욱 실제적이고 인격적으로 거룩하게 된다.^a 이는 그들 안에 거하시는 그분의 말씀과 성령을 통해 이루어진다.^b 죄의 몸 전체가 행사하던 지배력이 무너지고,^c 그 여러 정욕이 점점 약해지고 죽임을 당하며,^d 그들은 구원에 속한 모든 은혜 안에서 점점 살아나고 강해진다.^e 그리하여 참된 거룩함을 실천하게 되며, 이 거룩함이 없이는 아무도 주를 보지 못한다.^f

32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

32 지금 내가 너희를 주와 및 그 은혜의 말씀께 부탁하노니 그 말씀이 너희를 능히 든든히 세우사 거룩케 하심을 입은 모든 자 가운데 기업이 있게 하시리라

로마서 6:5-6

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

5 만일 우리가 그의 죽으심을 본받아 연합한 자가 되었으면 또한 그의 부활을 본받아 연합한 자가 되리라

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

6 우리가 알거니와 우리 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄의 몸이 멸하여 다시는 우리가 죄에게 종노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니

고린도전서 6:11

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

11 너희 중에 이와 같은 자들이 있더니 주 예수 그리스도의 이름과 우리 하나님의 성령 안에서 씻음과 거룩함과 의롭다 하심을 얻었느니라

빌립보서 3:10

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

10 내가 그리스도와 그 부활의 권능과 그 고난에 참예함을 알려하여 그의 죽으심을 본받아

요한복음 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

17 저희를 진리로 거룩하게 하옵소서 아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다

에베소서 5:26

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

26 이는 곧 물로 씻어 말씀으로 깨끗하게 하사 거룩하게 하시고

데살로니가후서 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

13 주의 사랑하시는 형제들아 우리가 항상 너희를 위하여 마땅히 하나님께 감사할 것은 하나님이 처음부터 너희를 택하사 성령의 거룩하게 하심과 진리를 믿음으로 구원을 얻게 하심이니

로마서 6:6, 14

로마서 8:13

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

13 너희가 육신대로 살면 반드시 죽을 것이로되 영으로써 몸의 행실을 죽이면 살리니

갈라디아서 5:24

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

24 그리스도 예수의 사람들은 육체와 함께 그 정과 욕심을 십자가에 못 박았느니라

에베소서 3:16-19

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

16 그 영광의 풍성을 따라 그의 성령으로 말미암아 너희 속 사람을 능력으로 강건하게 하옵시며

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

17 믿음으로 말미암아 그리스도께서 너희 마음에 계시게 하옵시고 너희가 사랑 가운데서 뿌리가 박히고 터가 굳어져서

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

18 능히 모든 성도와 함께 지식에 넘치는 그리스도의 사랑을 알아

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

19 그 넓이와 길이와 높이와 깊이가 어떠함을 깨달아 하나님의 모든 충만하신 것으로 너희에게 충만하게 하시기를 구하노라

골로새서 1:11

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

11 그 영광의 힘을 좇아 모든 능력으로 능하게 하시며 기쁨으로 모든 견딤과 오래 참음에 이르게 하시고

고린도후서 7:1

1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 그런즉 사랑하는 자들아 이 약속을 가진 우리가 하나님을 두려워하는 가운데서 거룩함을 온전히 이루어 육과 영의 온갖 더러운 것에서 자신을 깨끗케 하자

히브리서 12:14

14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

14 모든 사람으로 더불어 화평함과 거룩함을 좇으라 이것이 없이는 아무도 주를 보지 못하리라

2. This sanctification is throughout in the whole man,^a yet imperfect in this life; there abideth still some remnants of corruption in every part,^b whence ariseth a continual and irreconcilable war, the flesh lusting against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh.^c

2. 이 성화는 사람 전체에 걸쳐 이루어진다.^a 그러나 현세에서는 불완전하여 모든 부분에 부패의 잔재가 여전히 남아 있다.^b 이 때문에 육체는 성령을 거슬러 욕망하고 성령은 육체를 거슬러 역사하시는, 끊임없고 화해할 수 없는 싸움이 일어난다.^c

로마서 7:18, 23

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

18 내 속 곧 내 육신에 선한 것이 거하지 아니하는 줄을 아노니 원함은 내게 있으나 선을 행하는 것은 없노라

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

23 내 지체 속에서 한 다른 법이 내 마음의 법과 싸워 내 지체 속에 있는 죄의 법 아래로 나를 사로잡아 오는 것을 보는도다

빌립보서 3:12

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

12 내가 이미 얻었다 함도 아니요 온전히 이루었다 함도 아니라 오직 내가 그리스도 예수께 잡힌바 된 그것을 잡으려고 좇아가노라

요한일서 1:10

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

10 만일 우리가 범죄하지 아니하였다 하면 하나님을 거짓말 하는 자로 만드는 것이니 또한 그의 말씀이 우리 속에 있지 아니하니라

갈라디아서 5:17

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

17 육체의 소욕은 성령을 거스리고 성령의 소욕은 육체를 거스리나니 이 둘이 서로 대적함으로 너희의 원하는 것을 하지 못하게 하려 함이니라

베드로전서 2:11

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

11 사랑하는 자들아 나그네와 행인 같은 너희를 권하노니 영혼을 거스려 싸우는 육체의 정욕을 제어하라

3. In which war, although the remaining corruption for a time may much prevail,^a yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part doth overcome;^b and so the saints grow in grace,^c perfecting holiness in the fear of God.^d

3. 이 싸움에서 남아 있는 부패가 한동안 크게 우세할 수 있다.^a 그러나 거룩하게 하시는 그리스도의 영께서 계속 힘을 공급하시므로, 거듭난 부분이 이긴다.^b 이처럼 성도들은 은혜 안에서 자라며,^c 하나님을 경외함으로 거룩함을 온전히 이루어 간다.^d

로마서 6:14

에베소서 4:15-16

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

15 오직 사랑 안에서 참된 것을 하여 범사에 그에게까지 자랄찌라 그는 머리니 곧 그리스도라

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

16 그에게서 온 몸이 각 마디를 통하여 도움을 입음으로 연락하고 상합하여 각 지체의 분량대로 역사하여 그 몸을 자라게 하며 사랑 안에서 스스로 세우느니라

요한일서 5:4

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

4 대저 하나님께로서 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이긴 이김은 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라

고린도후서 3:18

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

18 우리가 다 수건을 벗은 얼굴로 거울을 보는것 같이 주의 영광을 보매 저와 같은 형상으로 화하여 영광으로 영광에 이르니 곧 주의 영으로 말미암음이니라

베드로후서 3:18

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

18 오직 우리 주 곧 구주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 저를 아는 지식에서 자라 가라 영광이 이제와 영원한 날까지 저에게 있을찌어다
