XIV. Of Saving Faith

1. The grace of faith, whereby the elect are enabled to believe to the saving of their souls,^a is the work of the Spirit of Christ in their hearts,^b and is ordinarily wrought by the ministry of the Word;^c by which also, and by the administration of the sacraments and prayer, it is increased and strengthened.^d

1. 택하신 자들이 믿어 영혼의 구원에 이르게 하는 믿음의 은혜는^a 그들의 마음속에서 이루어지는 그리스도의 영의 사역이며,^b 통상적으로 말씀의 사역을 통해 생겨난다.^c 또한 말씀의 사역과 성례의 시행과 기도를 통해 믿음이 자라고 강해진다.^d

히브리서 10:39

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

에베소서 1:17-19

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

17 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 하나님, 영광의 아버지께서 지혜와 계시의 정신을 너희에게 주사 하나님을 알게 하시고

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

18 너희 마음눈을 밝히사 그의 부르심의 소망이 무엇이며 성도 안에서 그 기업의 영광의 풍성이 무엇이며

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

에베소서 2:8

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

8 너희가 그 은혜를 인하여 믿음으로 말미암아 구원을 얻었나니 이것이 너희에게서 난 것이 아니요 하나님의 선물이라

고린도후서 4:13

13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

13 기록한바 내가 믿는 고로 말하였다 한 것 같이 우리가 같은 믿음의 마음을 가졌으니 우리도 믿는 고로 또한 말하노라

로마서 10:14, 17

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

14 그런즉 저희가 믿지 아니하는 이를 어찌 부르리요 듣지도 못한 이를 어찌 믿으리요 전파하는 자가 없이 어찌 들으리요

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

17 그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미암았느니라

누가복음 17:5

5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

5 사도들이 주께 여짜오되 우리에게 믿음을 더하소서 하니

사도행전 20:32

32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

32 지금 내가 너희를 주와 및 그 은혜의 말씀께 부탁하노니 그 말씀이 너희를 능히 든든히 세우사 거룩케 하심을 입은 모든 자 가운데 기업이 있게 하시리라

로마서 1:16-17

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

16 내가 복음을 부끄러워하지 아니하노니 이 복음은 모든 믿는 자에게 구원을 주시는 하나님의 능력이 됨이라 첫째는 유대인에게요 또한 헬라인에게로다

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

17 복음에는 하나님의 의가 나타나서 믿음으로 믿음에 이르게 하나니 기록된바 오직 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 함과 같으니라

로마서 4:11

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

11 저가 할례의 표를 받은 것은 무할례시에 믿음으로 된 의를 인친 것이니 이는 무할례자로서 믿는 모든 자의 조상이 되어 저희로 의로 여기심을 얻게 하려 하심이라

베드로전서 2:2

2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

2 갓난 아이들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 이로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라

2. By this faith a Christian believeth to be true whatsoever is revealed in the Word, for the authority of God himself speaking therein;^a and acteth differently upon that which each particular passage thereof containeth; yielding obedience to the commands,^b trembling at the threatenings,^c and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come.^d But the principal acts of saving faith are accepting, receiving, and resting upon Christ alone for justification, sanctification, and eternal life, by virtue of the covenant of grace.^e

2. 이 믿음으로 그리스도인은 말씀 안에서 말씀하시는 하나님 자신의 권위 때문에 그 말씀에 계시된 모든 것을 참되다고 믿는다.^a 또한 각 본문에 담긴 내용에 따라 다르게 반응하여, 명령에는 순종하고,^b 경고 앞에서는 떨며,^c 현세와 내세를 위한 하나님의 약속들을 붙든다.^d 그러나 구원에 이르는 믿음의 주된 행위는 은혜 언약에 근거하여 칭의와 성화와 영생을 위해 오직 그리스도만을 받아들이고 영접하며 의지하는 것이다.^e

사도행전 24:14

14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

데살로니가전서 2:13

13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

13 이러므로 우리가 하나님께 쉬지 않고 감사함은 너희가 우리에게 들은바 하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니 진실로 그러하다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 속에서 역사하느니라

요한일서 5:10

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

10 하나님의 아들을 믿는 자는 자기 안에 증거가 있고 하나님을 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 거짓말 하는 자로 만드나니 이는 하나님께서 그 아들에 관하여 증거하신 증거를 믿지 아니하였음이라

로마서 16:26

26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

26 이제는 나타내신바 되었으며 영원하신 하나님의 명을 좇아 선지자들의 글로 말미암아 모든 민족으로 믿어 순종케 하시려고 알게 하신바 그 비밀의 계시를 좇아 된 것이니 이 복음으로 너희를 능히 견고케 하실

이사야 66:2

2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

2 나 여호와가 말하노라 나의 손이 이 모든 것을 지어서 다 이루었느니라 무릇 마음이 가난하고 심령에 통회하며 나의 말을 인하여 떠는 자 그 사람은 내가 권고하려니와

디모데전서 4:8

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

8 육체의 연습은 약간의 유익이 있으나 경건은 범사에 유익하니 금생과 내생에 약속이 있느니라

히브리서 11:13

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

13 이 사람들은 다 믿음을 따라 죽었으며 약속을 받지 못하였으되 그것들을 멀리서 보고 환영하며 또 땅에서는 외국인과 나그네로라 증거하였으니

요한복음 1:12

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

12 영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니

사도행전 15:11

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

11 우리가 저희와 동일하게 주 예수의 은혜로 구원 받는 줄을 믿노라 하니라

사도행전 16:31

31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

31 가로되 주 예수를 믿으라 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 얻으리라 하고

갈라디아서 2:20

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

20 내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니 그런즉 이제는 내가 산 것이 아니요 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사신 것이라 이제 내가 육체 가운데 사는 것은 나를 사랑하사 나를 위하여 자기 몸을 버리신 하나님의 아들을 믿는 믿음 안에서 사는 것이라

3. This faith is different in degrees, weak or strong;^a may be often and many ways assailed and weakened, but gets the victory;^b growing up in many to the attainment of a full assurance through Christ,^c who is both the author and finisher of our faith.^d

3. 이 믿음에는 정도의 차이가 있어 약할 수도 강할 수도 있다.^a 자주 여러 방식으로 공격받고 약해질 수 있으나 결국 승리한다.^b 많은 사람 안에서 이 믿음은 자라나 그리스도를 통하여 충만한 확신에 이른다.^c 그리스도는 우리 믿음의 창시자이시며 완성자이시다.^d

마태복음 8:10

10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

10 예수께서 들으시고 기이히 여겨 좇는 자들에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 이스라엘 중 아무에게서도 이만한 믿음을 만나보지 못하였노라

로마서 4:19-20

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

19 그가 백세나 되어 자기 몸의 죽은 것 같음과 사라의 태의 죽은 것 같음을 알고도 믿음이 약하여지지 아니하고

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

20 믿음이 없어 하나님의 약속을 의심치 않고 믿음에 견고하여져서 하나님께 영광을 돌리며

히브리서 5:13-14

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

13 대저 젖을 먹는 자마다 어린 아이니 의의 말씀을 경험하지 못한 자요

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

14 단단한 식물은 장성한 자의 것이니 저희는 지각을 사용하므로 연단을 받아 선악을 분변하는 자들이니라

누가복음 22:31-32

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

31 시몬아, 시몬아, 보라 사단이 밀 까부르듯 하려고 너희를 청구하였으나

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

32 그러나 내가 너를 위하여 네 믿음이 떨어지지 않기를 기도하였노니 너는 돌이킨 후에 네 형제를 굳게 하라

에베소서 6:16

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

16 모든 것 위에 믿음의 방패를 가지고 이로써 능히 악한 자의 모든 화전을 소멸하고

요한일서 5:4-5

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

4 대저 하나님께로서 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이긴 이김은 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

5 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구뇨

골로새서 2:2

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

2 이는 저희로 마음에 위안을 받고 사랑 안에서 연합하여 원만한 이해의 모든 부요에 이르러 하나님의 비밀인 그리스도를 깨닫게 하려 함이라

히브리서 6:11-12

11 And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

11 우리가 간절히 원하는 것은 너희 각 사람이 동일한 부지런을 나타내어 끝까지 소망의 풍성함에 이르러

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

12 게으르지 아니하고 믿음과 오래 참음으로 말미암아 약속들을 기업으로 받는 자들을 본받는 자 되게 하려는 것이니라

히브리서 10:22

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

22 우리가 마음에 뿌림을 받아 양심의 악을 깨닫고 몸을 맑은 물로 씻었으니 참 마음과 온전한 믿음으로 하나님께 나아가자

히브리서 12:2

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2 믿음의 주요 또 온전케 하시는 이인 예수를 바라보자 저는 그 앞에 있는 즐거움을 위하여 십자가를 참으사 부끄러움을 개의치 아니하시더니 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉으셨느니라
