XV. Of Repentance unto Life

1. Repentance unto life is an evangelical grace,^a the doctrine whereof is to be preached by every minister of the gospel, as well as that of faith in Christ.^b

1. 생명에 이르는 회개는 복음의 은혜이다.^a 복음의 모든 사역자는 그리스도를 믿는 믿음의 교리와 함께 이 회개의 교리도 전해야 한다.^b

2. By it a sinner, out of the sight and sense, not only of the danger, but also of the filthiness and odiousness of his sins, as contrary to the holy nature and righteous law of God, and upon the apprehension of his mercy in Christ to such as are penitent, so grieves for and hates his sins as to turn from them all unto God,^a purposing and endeavoring to walk with him in all the ways of his commandments.^b

2. 이 회개로 죄인은 자기 죄의 위험뿐 아니라, 그 죄가 하나님의 거룩한 본성과 의로운 법에 어긋나는 더럽고 가증한 것임을 보고 깨닫는다. 또한 회개하는 자들을 향한 그리스도 안의 하나님의 긍휼을 깨달아 자기 죄를 슬퍼하고 미워하며, 그 모든 죄에서 돌이켜 하나님께로 돌아간다.^a 그리고 그분의 모든 계명의 길에서 하나님과 동행하기로 결심하고 힘쓴다.^b

시편 119:128

128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

이사야 30:22

22 Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

예레미야 31:18-19

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.

18 에브라임이 스스로 탄식함을 내가 정녕히 들었노니 이르기를 주께서 나를 징벌하시매 멍에에 익숙지 못한 송아지 같은 내가 징벌을 받았나이다 주는 나의 하나님 여호와시니 나를 이끌어 돌이키소서 그리하시면 내가 돌아오겠나이다

19 Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

에스겔 18:30-31

30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

30 나 주 여호와가 말하노라 이스라엘 족속아 내가 너희 각 사람의 행한대로 국문할찌라 너희는 돌이켜 회개하고 모든 죄에서 떠날찌어다 그리한즉 죄악이 너희를 패망케 아니하리라

31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

요엘 2:12-13

12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

12 여호와의 말씀에 너희는 이제라도 금식하며 울며 애통하고 마음을 다하여 내게로 돌아오라 하셨나니

13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

아모스 5:15

15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

15 너희는 악을 미워하고 선을 사랑하며 성문에서 공의를 세울찌어다 만군의 하나님 여호와께서 혹시 요셉의 남은 자를 긍휼히 여기시리라

고린도후서 7:11

11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

11 보라 하나님의 뜻대로 하게 한 이 근심이 너희로 얼마나 간절하게 하며 얼마나 변명하게 하며 얼마나 분하게 하며 얼마나 두렵게 하며 얼마나 사모하게 하며 얼마나 열심있게 하며 얼마나 벌하게 하였는가, 너희가 저 일에 대하여 일절 너희 자신의 깨끗함을 나타내었느니라

25 And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

25 요시야와 같이 마음을 다하며 성품을 다하며 힘을 다하여 여호와를 향하여 모세의 모든 율법을 온전히 준행한 임금은 요시야 전에도 없었고 후에도 그와 같은 자가 없었더라

6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

누가복음 1:6

6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

6 이 두 사람이 하나님 앞에 의인이니 주의 모든 계명과 규례대로 흠이 없이 행하더라

3. Although repentance be not to be rested in as any satisfaction for sin, or any cause of the pardon thereof,^a which is the act of God’s free grace in Christ;^b yet is it of such necessity to all sinners that none may expect pardon without it.^c

3. 회개를 죄에 대한 어떤 만족이나 죄 사함의 어떤 원인으로 삼아 의지해서는 안 된다.^a 죄 사함은 그리스도 안에서 베푸시는 하나님의 값없는 은혜의 행위이기 때문이다.^b 그러나 회개는 모든 죄인에게 반드시 필요하므로, 회개 없이 용서를 기대할 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없다.^c

2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

2 너는 말씀을 가지고 여호와께로 돌아 와서 아뢰기를 모든 불의를 제하시고 선한바를 받으소서 우리가 입술로 수송아지를 대신하여 주께 드리리이다

4 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.

4 내가 저희의 패역을 고치고 즐거이 저희를 사랑하리니 나의 진노가 저에게서 떠났음이니라

로마서 3:24

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

24 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구속으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 값 없이 의롭다 하심을 얻은 자 되었느니라

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

31 이는 정하신 사람으로 하여금 천하를 공의로 심판할 날을 작정하시고 이에 저를 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리신 것으로 모든 사람에게 믿을만한 증거를 주셨음이니라 하니라

4. As there is no sin so small but it deserves damnation,^a so there is no sin so great that it can bring damnation upon those who truly repent.^b

로마서 8:1

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5. Men ought not to content themselves with a general repentance, but it is every man’s duty to endeavor to repent of his particular sins particularly.^a

5. 사람은 일반적인 회개로 만족해서는 안 된다. 각 사람은 자신의 개별적인 죄를 구체적으로 회개하도록 힘쓸 의무가 있다.^a

As every man is bound to make private confession of his sins to God, praying for the pardon thereof,^a upon which, and the forsaking of them, he shall find mercy;^b so he that scandalizeth his brother, or the Church of Christ, ought to be willing, by a private or public confession and sorrow for his sin, to declare his repentance to those that are offended,^c who are thereupon to be reconciled to him, and in love to receive him.^d

잠언 28:13

13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

13 자기의 죄를 숨기는 자는 형통치 못하나 죄를 자복하고 버리는 자는 불쌍히 여김을 받으리라

요한일서 1:9

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

9 만일 우리가 우리 죄를 자백하면 저는 미쁘시고 의로우사 우리 죄를 사하시며 모든 불의에서 우리를 깨끗케 하실 것이요

여호수아 7:19

19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

누가복음 17:3-4

3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

3 너희는 스스로 조심하라 만일 네 형제가 죄를 범하거든 경계하고 회개하거든 용서하라

4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

야고보서 5:16

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

16 이러므로 너희 죄를 서로 고하며 병 낫기를 위하여 서로 기도하라 의인의 간구는 역사하는 힘이 많으니라

고린도후서 2:8

8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
