XXX. Of Church Censures

1. The Lord Jesus, as king and head of his Church, hath therein appointed a government in the hand of Church officers, distinct from the civil magistrate.^a

1. 주 예수는 자신의 교회의 왕이며 머리로서, 국가 위정자와 구별되는 교회 통치를 교회 직분자들의 손에 맡겨 세우셨다.^a

이사야 9:6-7

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

6 이는 한 아기가 우리에게 났고 한 아들을 우리에게 주신바 되었는데 그 어깨에는 정사를 메었고 그 이름은 기묘자라, 모사라, 전능하신 하나님이라, 영존하시는 아버지라, 평강의 왕이라 할것임이라

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

7 그 정사와 평강의 더함이 무궁하며 또 다윗의 위에 앉아서 그 나라를 굳게 세우고 자금 이후 영원토록 공평과 정의로 그것을 보존하실 것이라 만군의 여호와의 열심이 이를 이루시리라

마태복음 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

18 예수께서 나아와 일러 가라사대 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

19 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

20 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼찌어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라

사도행전 20:17, 28

17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.

17 바울이 밀레도에서 사람을 에베소로 보내어 교회 장로들을 청하니

28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

28 너희는 자기를 위하여 또는 온 양떼를 위하여 삼가라 성령이 저들 가운데 너희로 감독자를 삼고 하나님이 자기 피로 사신 교회를 치게 하셨느니라

고린도전서 12:28

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

28 하나님이 교회 중에 몇을 세우셨으니 첫째는 사도요 둘째는 선지자요 세째는 교사요 그 다음은 능력이요 그 다음은 병 고치는 은사와 서로 돕는 것과 다스리는 것과 각종 방언을 하는 것이라

데살로니가전서 5:12

12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

12 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서 너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고

디모데전서 5:17

17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

17 잘 다스리는 장로들을 배나 존경할 자로 알되 말씀과 가르침에 수고하는 이들을 더할 것이니라

히브리서 13:7, 17, 24

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

7 하나님의 말씀을 너희에게 이르고 너희를 인도하던 자들을 생각하며 저희 행실의 종말을 주의하여 보고 저희 믿음을 본받으라

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

17 너희를 인도하는 자들에게 순종하고 복종하라 저희는 너희 영혼을 위하여 경성하기를 자기가 회계할 자인것 같이 하느니라 저희로 하여금 즐거움으로 이것을 하게 하고 근심으로 하게 말라 그렇지 않으면 너희에게 유익이 없느니라

24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

24 너희를 인도하는 자와 및 모든 성도에게 문안하라 이달리야에서 온 자들도 너희에게 문안하느니라

2. To these officers the keys of the kingdom of heaven are committed, by virtue whereof they have power respectively to retain and remit sins, to shut that kingdom against the impenitent, both by the Word and censures; and to open it unto penitent sinners, by the ministry of the gospel, and by absolution from censures, as occasion shall require.^a

2. 이 직분자들에게 천국 열쇠가 맡겨졌다. 이로써 그들은 각자의 직무에 따라 죄를 그대로 두거나 용서할 권세를 가지며, 말씀과 권징으로 회개하지 않는 자들에게 그 나라를 닫고, 회개하는 죄인들에게는 형편에 따라 복음의 사역과 권징의 해제로 그 나라를 열 권세를 가진다.^a

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 내가 천국 열쇠를 네게 주리니 네가 땅에서 무엇이든지 매면 하늘에서도 매일 것이요 네가 땅에서 무엇이든지 풀면 하늘에서도 풀리리라 하시고

마태복음 18:17-18

17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.

17 만일 그들의 말도 듣지 않거든 교회에 말하고 교회의 말도 듣지 않거든 이방인과 세리와 같이 여기라

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

18 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 무엇이든지 너희가 땅에서 매면 하늘에서도 매일 것이요 무엇이든지 땅에서 풀면 하늘에서도 풀리리라

요한복음 20:21-23

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

21 예수께서 또 가라사대 너희에게 평강이 있을찌어다 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것 같이 나도 너희를 보내노라

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

22 이 말씀을 하시고 저희를 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 가라사대 성령을 받으라

23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

23 너희가 뉘 죄든지 사하면 사하여질 것이요 뉘 죄든지 그대로 두면 그대로 있으리라 하시니라

고린도후서 2:6-8

6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

6 이러한 사람이 많은 사람에게서 벌 받은 것이 족하도다

7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

7 그런즉 너희는 차라리 저를 용서하고 위로할 것이니 저가 너무 많은 근심에 잠길까 두려워하노라

8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

8 그러므로 너희를 권하노니 사랑을 저희에게 나타내라

3. Church censures are necessary for the reclaiming and gaining of offending brethren; for deterring of others from the like offenses; for purging out of that leaven which might infect the whole lump; for vindicating the honor of Christ, and the holy profession of the gospel; and for preventing the wrath of God, which might justly fall upon the Church, if they should suffer his covenant, and the seals thereof, to be profaned by notorious and obstinate offenders.^a

3. 교회의 권징은 잘못을 범한 형제들을 회복하고 되찾으며, 다른 사람들이 같은 잘못을 범하지 않도록 경계하고, 온 반죽을 오염시킬 수 있는 누룩을 제거하며, 그리스도의 명예와 복음의 거룩한 고백을 지키기 위하여 필요하다. 또한 악명이 높고 완고한 범죄자들이 하나님의 언약과 그 인들을 더럽히도록 교회가 방치할 경우, 교회 위에 정당하게 임할 하나님의 진노를 막기 위하여 필요하다.^a

6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

6 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며 너희 진주를 돼지 앞에 던지지 말라 저희가 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상할까 염려하라

고린도전서 11:27-34

27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

27 그러므로 누구든지 주의 떡이나 잔을 합당치 않게 먹고 마시는 자는 주의 몸과 피를 범하는 죄가 있느니라

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

28 사람이 자기를 살피고 그 후에야 이 떡을 먹고 이 잔을 마실찌니

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

29 주의 몸을 분변치 못하고 먹고 마시는 자는 자기의 죄를 먹고 마시는 것이니라

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

30 이러므로 너희 중에 약한 자와 병든 자가 많고 잠자는 자도 적지 아니하니

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

31 우리가 우리를 살폈으면 판단을 받지 아니하려니와

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

32 우리가 판단을 받는 것은 주께 징계를 받는 것이니 이는 우리로 세상과 함께 죄 정함을 받지 않게 하려 하심이라

33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

33 그런즉 내 형제들아 먹으러 모일 때에 서로 기다리라

34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

34 만일 누구든지 시장하거든 집에서 먹을찌니 이는 너희의 판단 받는 모임이 되지 않게 하려함이라 그 남은 것은 내가 언제든지 갈 때에 귀정하리라

유다서 1:23

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

23 또 어떤 자를 불에서 끌어내어 구원하라 또 어떤 자를 그 육체로 더럽힌 옷이라도 싫어하여 두려움으로 긍휼히 여기라

디모데전서 1:20

20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

20 그 가운데 후메내오와 알렉산더가 있으니 내가 사단에게 내어준 것은 저희로 징계를 받아 훼방하지 말게 하려 함이니라

디모데전서 5:20

20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

20 범죄한 자들을 모든 사람 앞에 꾸짖어 나머지 사람으로 두려워하게 하라

4. For the better attaining of these ends, the officers of the Church are to proceed by admonition, suspension from the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper for a season, and by excommunication from the Church, according to the nature of the crime and demerit of the person.^a

4. 이 목적들을 더욱 잘 이루기 위하여 교회 직분자들은 범죄의 성격과 당사자가 마땅히 받을 처분에 따라, 권면과 일정 기간의 성찬 참여 정지와 교회에서의 출교를 시행해야 한다.^a

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

4 주 예수의 이름으로 너희가 내 영과 함께 모여서 우리 주 예수의 능력으로

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

5 이런 자를 사단에게 내어주었으니 이는 육신은 멸하고 영은 주 예수의 날에 구원 얻게 하려 함이라

13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

13 외인들은 하나님이 판단하시려니와 이 악한 사람은 너희 중에서 내어 쫓으라

데살로니가전서 5:12

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

6 형제들아 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 너희를 명하노니 규모 없이 행하고 우리에게 받은 유전대로 행하지 아니하는 모든 형제에게서 떠나라

14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

14 누가 이 편지에 한 우리 말을 순종치 아니하거든 그 사람을 지목하여 사귀지 말고 저로 하여금 부끄럽게 하라

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

15 그러나 원수와 같이 생각지 말고 형제 같이 권하라

디도서 3:10

10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject;

10 이단에 속한 사람을 한두번 훈계한 후에 멀리 하라
