문답 77 칭의와 성화는 어떻게 다릅니까?

Wherein do justification and sanctification differ?

Although sanctification be inseparably joined with justification,¹ yet they differ, in that God in justification (imputeth the righteousness of Christ);² in sanctification of his Spirit (infuseth grace), and enableth to the exercise thereof;³ in the former, sin is pardoned;⁴ in the other, it is subdued:⁵ the one doth equally free all believers from the revenging wrath of God, and that perfectly in this life, that they never fall into condemnation⁶ the other is neither equal in all,⁷ nor in this life perfect in any,⁸ but growing up to perfection.⁹

성화는 칭의와 불가분하게 결합되어 있지만,¹ 칭의에서는 하나님께서 그리스도의 의를 전가하시고,² 성화에서는 성령께서 은혜를 부어 주시며 그것을 행할 수 있게 하신다는 점에서 다릅니다.³ 전자에서는 죄가 용서되고,⁴ 후자에서는 죄가 정복됩니다.⁵ 전자는 모든 신자를 하나님의 보응하시는 진노에서 똑같이 해방하며, 이 생에서 완전하게 해방하므로 결코 정죄에 이르지 않게 합니다.⁶ 후자는 모든 사람에게 똑같지 않고,⁷ 이 생에서는 어느 누구에게도 완전하지 않으나,⁸ 완전을 향하여 자라납니다.⁹

11 너희 중에 이와 같은 자들이 있더니 주 예수 그리스도의 이름과 우리 하나님의 성령 안에서 씻음과 거룩함과 의롭다 하심을 얻었느니라

고린도전서 1:30

30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

30 너희는 하나님께로부터 나서 그리스도 예수 안에 있고 예수는 하나님께로서 나와서 우리에게 지혜와 의로움과 거룩함과 구속함이 되셨으니

로마서 4:6, 8

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

로마서 3:24-25

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

24 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구속으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 값 없이 의롭다 하심을 얻은 자 되었느니라

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

로마서 6:6, 14

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

6 우리가 알거니와 우리 옛 사람이 예수와 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은 죄의 몸이 멸하여 다시는 우리가 죄에게 종노릇 하지 아니하려 함이니

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

14 죄가 너희를 주관치 못하리니 이는 너희가 법 아래 있지 아니하고 은혜 아래 있음이니라

로마서 8:33-34

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

33 누가 능히 하나님의 택하신 자들을 송사하리요 의롭다 하신 이는 하나님이시니

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

34 누가 정죄하리요 죽으실 뿐아니라 다시 살아나신 이는 그리스도 예수시니 그는 하나님 우편에 계신 자요 우리를 위하여 간구하시는 자시니라

요한일서 2:12-14

12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

12 자녀들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희 죄가 그의 이름으로 말미암아 사함을 얻음이요

13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

13 아비들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 태초부터 계신 이를 앎이요 청년들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 악한 자를 이기었음이니라

14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

14 아이들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 아버지를 알았음이요 아비들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 태초부터 계신 이를 알았음이요 청년들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 강하고 하나님의 말씀이 너희 속에 거하시고 너희가 흉악한 자를 이기었음이라

히브리서 5:12-14

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

12 때가 오래므로 너희가 마땅히 선생이 될터인데 너희가 다시 하나님의 말씀의 초보가 무엇인지 누구에게 가르침을 받아야 할 것이니 젖이나 먹고 단단한 식물을 못 먹을 자가 되었도다

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

13 대저 젖을 먹는 자마다 어린 아이니 의의 말씀을 경험하지 못한 자요

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

14 단단한 식물은 장성한 자의 것이니 저희는 지각을 사용하므로 연단을 받아 선악을 분변하는 자들이니라

요한일서 1:8, 10

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

8 만일 우리가 죄 없다하면 스스로 속이고 또 진리가 우리 속에 있지 아니할 것이요

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

10 만일 우리가 범죄하지 아니하였다 하면 하나님을 거짓말 하는 자로 만드는 것이니 또한 그의 말씀이 우리 속에 있지 아니하니라

고린도후서 7:1

1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 그런즉 사랑하는 자들아 이 약속을 가진 우리가 하나님을 두려워하는 가운데서 거룩함을 온전히 이루어 육과 영의 온갖 더러운 것에서 자신을 깨끗케 하자

빌립보서 3:12-14

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

12 내가 이미 얻었다 함도 아니요 온전히 이루었다 함도 아니라 오직 내가 그리스도 예수께 잡힌바 된 그것을 잡으려고 좇아가노라

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

13 형제들아 나는 아직 내가 잡은 줄로 여기지 아니하고 오직 한 일 즉 뒤에 있는 것은 잊어버리고 앞에 있는 것을 잡으려고

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
